What to expect
Eurasian coot winter on the lower Danube lake systems in dense rafts of hundreds. Birds work the open water during the day and flight to the reed margins to roost — a predictable rhythm that puts hunters into reliable shooting from October through January.
The hunt works from hides in the reed beds at dawn and dusk. Birds fly fast, low, and rarely jink — easier shooting than duck, much easier than snipe. Good entry wing-shoot for hunters new to European waterfowl, and a productive pairing with our duck shoot on the same lake systems.
Good to know
Oradea, Cluj, or Timișoara — whichever is closest to your hunting zone. Airport transfer arranged on request (not included in the package).
Hotel, guesthouse, or hunting cabin — depending on your hunting zone.
Common choice: 12-ga over-and-under; 32g #5 or #6 non-toxic (steel) shot per EU REACH wetland rules. Modified chokes work well.
Rifles, shotguns, and ammunition can be rented on site — bring a valid hunting permit from your home country and we'll sort the rest at booking.
Warm immobile-hide layers, gloves, thermos. Dawn lake temperatures bite even in October.

- Firearms only — crossbows, bows, traps and snares are not lawful hunting means in Romania.
- Thermal and night-vision sights are not permitted for this species.
- Daily bag limit: 15 birds per hunter.
Reference dates only. The Romanian Ministry of Environment's annual hunting order is authoritative; quotas for derogation species (bear, wolf, lynx) shift independently. We confirm the operative rules at booking.
