ABOUT THE SHOOT

What to expect

The lower Danube valley is one of Europe's great waterfowl corridors. Mallard hold year-round on the deeper lakes; teal and pochard move through during the autumn migration from October onward. Daily bags are set by law and vary by species — ten mallard, ten teal, one pochard; tufted duck carries a zero limit and is not taken.

Mornings are dawn flights — decoy setups on the open water, hides in the reed margin, two guides per team of guns. Afternoons walk reed beds with cocker spaniels to flush the resident birds. Two-day packages cover one full morning flight and two walked-up sessions; three-day packages add a second morning flight and a duck pâté dinner that's worth flying in for on its own.

This package is duck-focused. Geese have their own programme on different lake systems (see Wild Geese Shoot), as does the autumn woodcock migration (see Woodcock Hunt). Other small wing-game (quail, snipe, coot, etc.) is legal in season and gets shot incidentally on the duck flights, but isn't billed as a target species.

Accommodation is a hotel, guesthouse, or hunting cabin, depending on the hunting zone.

Oradea, Cluj, or Timișoara — whichever is closest to your hunting zone. Airport transfer arranged on request (not included in the package).

Shotgun

Common choice: 12-ga over-and-under; 32g #4 to #6 non-toxic (steel) shot. EU REACH restricts lead shot in / near wetlands — we confirm the operating zone's rule at booking.

Rental

Rifles, shotguns, and ammunition can be rented on site — bring a valid hunting permit from your home country and we'll sort the rest at booking.

Clothing

We supply hip + chest waders. Bring a waterproof outer layer, warm gloves, brimmed cap.

Rules that bind this hunt
  • Firearms only — crossbows, bows, traps and snares are not lawful hunting means in Romania.
  • Thermal and night-vision sights are not permitted for this species.
  • Daily bag limit: 10 birds per hunter.

Reference dates only. The Romanian Ministry of Environment's annual hunting order is authoritative; quotas for derogation species (bear, wolf, lynx) shift independently. We confirm the operative rules at booking.
