ABOUT THE HUNT

What to expect

Status update — currently not bookable. Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) is one of Romania's three large carnivores and is strictly protected under Annex IV of the EU Habitats Directive. As of the current season, Romania has not issued a derogation quota and lynx hunting is suspended. Register your interest below and we will notify you the moment the status changes — no deposit is taken until a permit is held.

How the hunt runs when derogations are open: under Article 16 of the directive, the Ministry issues population-management permits tied to documented livestock damage. Quotas are small (typically under twenty animals nationally), allocated case by case. The hunt is 1:1 with a senior guide in the deep Maramureș forest on fresh snow — lynx leave clean prints and follow kill sites, so the work is tracking, sitting at known feeding stations, and the rare set-up over fresh sign. A typical 4-day allocation produces zero to one shot opportunity; we will not hurry a shot.

Documentation. Every lynx trophy leaves Romania with a full CITES Annex A export licence we file on your behalf. The hunter's home-country import licence is the hunter's responsibility — we can advise on EU vs non-EU pathways.

Airports

Oradea, Cluj, or Timișoara — whichever is closest to your hunting zone. Airport transfer arranged on request (not included in the package).

Lodge

Hotel, guesthouse, or hunting cabin — depending on your hunting zone.

Rifle

Common Romanian choices: .243, .270, 6.5 Creedmoor. Quality variable scope (2.5–10×) for fading-light shots. Thermal and night-vision sights are not permitted on lynx.

Rental

Rifles, shotguns, and ammunition can be rented on site — bring a valid hunting permit from your home country and we'll sort the rest at booking.

Clothing

Deep-winter snow-tracking kit, quiet outer layer, white camo. Patience over reflex — shots are rare and considered.

Best for

Status

No open season. Romanian law lists this species as one whose hunting is prohibited; it can only be taken if the Ministry issues a derogation for a specific case, which sets its own dates. We publish those dates only once a derogation exists.

Rules that bind this hunt

Firearms only — crossbows, bows, traps and snares are not lawful hunting means in Romania.
Thermal and night-vision sights are not permitted for this species.
Strictly protected. Huntable only when the Ministry issues a case-by-case derogation — never on a standing season.

Reference dates only. The Romanian Ministry of Environment's annual hunting order is authoritative; quotas for derogation species (bear, wolf, lynx) shift independently. We confirm the operative rules at booking.
